QuizHill is built for kids who want to learn. It's a passion project, not a business — QuizHill will always be free to use, and it will never carry ads. No accounts, no tracking for advertising, no paywalls. Just practice quizzes and reading resources, built to help students build confidence.

What is a CBE exam?

Credit by Examination, or CBE, lets a student earn academic credit for a course by passing a test on that subject's material — without having to sit through the class itself. Texas students generally use CBE for two reasons:

• •Acceleration — to test out of a course the student has already mastered, sometimes to skip a grade level in a subject.
• •Credit recovery— to make up credit for a course the student didn't pass.

Who administers it

Many Texas school districts, including districts across North Texas, contract with Texas Tech University K-12 (TTU K-12) to write and administer their CBE exams. Exams are proctored remotely, so students can take them from home with a webcam and a stable internet connection.

Rules, fees, and passing thresholds are set by TTU K-12 and may change — always confirm current details with the official source before registering.

Approval & getting started

Before registering, students typically need approval from a school counselor or academic adviser. Your school district is always the best source for the exact steps, deadlines, and whether a given CBE will count for credit in your specific program.

The law behind it

Credit by Examination is authorized under Texas law and overseen by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), which sets the statewide rules districts must follow.
